Beyond the Red Line

The world of mods and games hacking knows no bounds and I for one am a huge supporter of fan-made conversions. Beyond the Red Line is such a mod, developed by a talented group of game artists, developers and fans of the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica television series. Based entirely on Freespace 2 by Volition, Beyond the Red Line is a total conversion package which will be free to download and play upon release. Supporting online multiplayer, Beyond the Read line promises to allow players to perform some of the interesting space maneuvers which appear in the series during various gameplay modes, such as deathmatch, team deathmatch and possibly even coop missions. Demo versions of the upcoming game are available in PC, MAC and Linux flavors for those of us who wish our last name was Adama.

Battlestar Galactica opening credits, World of Warcraft style

BSG WoW style

Oh how I wait anxiously for a Battlestar Galactica MMORPG, but, until that highly unlikely day dawns, I’ll have to live with user-created machine in order to live those dreams out. Here, we’ve got the opening credits of the amazingly sci-nerd television show, recreated from within World of Warcraft. I especially love the multiple cyclon clones and the “Six” model.

Battlestar Galactica tabletop RPG coming soon

Battlestar Galactica

Margaret Weis (who?), a book and game publishing company based in SE Wisconsin named after owner / author Margaret Weis has announced they will be publishing the Battlestar Galactica table-top role-playing game come 2007. Known for their Dragonlance setting for Dungeons and Dragons as well as their Serenity RPG, Margaret Weis also publishes the young adult pick-a-path novel series, Paths of Doom (I used to love pick-a-path novels!). The game-book will be set in space, following the storyline of the re-imagined series as what’s left of humanity races to find Earth before the ever so lovely Cylons do. The game-system is being designed by Jamie Chambers, who also designed the Serenity RPG and aided by Sean Everette, writer for Knightly Orders of Ansalon and an ex-United States Navy and Air Force soldier, which will aid in keeping the writing similar to the military style Battlestar Galactica is known for.

Efren Ramirez from Napoleon Dynamite

The nerdiness of this post is out of control! A recent video on YouTube shows Chris Barret and Efren Ramirez (Pedro from Napoleon Dynamite!) living it up on the set of 24 with a few rounds of boxing on the Nintendo Wii. I guess Kiefer was in his dressing room shredding it up on Guitar Hero.

Battlestar Galactica

In a recent (and detailed) investor presentation from Vivendi Games it was revealed that a Battlestar Galactica game is currently under development for Sierra Games, a subsidiary of Vivendi. The game is reportedly on-target for a 2007 release for Microsoft’s Live Arcade network as well as for PC. No information on whether this will be a licensed tie-in for the Sci Fi networks hit television series or whether this will be fashioned after the original series was presented by Vivendi, though the logo image included in the presentation appeared to be from the modern Battlestar Galactica (!!!).
