F.E.A.R.

Though the UMPC seems to have dropped off the face of the planet, it still seems that some people are actually still making them, as well as using them! Not the type to ever miss out on a chance to carry games around, avid gamers were once mighty excited about the new UMPCs from Microsoft, with thoughts of high-end mobile gaming becoming a reality. Excitement which eventually turned into mild interest and then eventually nothing but a distant memory as the reality of an extremely high price, unfriendly controls and presumed lack of power sank in. Well paint us blue in the face, because one avid gamer shows us we should be eating crow by sticking F.E.A.R. onto the Samsung Q1 UMPC and posting a video for all in the world to drool over. The Samsung Q1 will set you back around $1400 USD and sports a 900MHz Celeron M processor, an Intel 915GMS video chip set, 512MB DDR2 SDRAM and a 40gb HDD using an integrated 802.11b/g Wi-Fi card, plus Bluetooth 2.0 to network. Not an ideal portable gaming machine by any means, but, running F.E.A.R. things can’t really be all that bad!

Nintendo DS owns the Japanese sales charts this week

Nintendo DS Lite big in Japan

The recently released Japanese sales charts for hardware and software sales have been released and it shows Nintendo having amazing week. The software sales charts treat us to a unique sight this week, with the top ten titles in sales belonging all to the same platform, the Nintento DS handheld. Unless the same happened with the NES (which it probably did, but there aren’t sales charts available) this is the first time one platform holder has dominated the top 10 software sales charts. As much as everyone likes to bash Nintendo, I can see great things for the Wii over in Japan (and in the west!), with the gaming market maturing and PC gaming slowly dying, the market for pick up and play, casual AND entertaining games are on the rise and the DS sales only prove this. Wii60 FTW!

Sim City coming to Nintendo DS

Legendary sim-strategy game Sim City will be making it’s way to everyone’s favorite handheld console Winter 2006/2007 according to EA, though exact details haven’t been officially released. This possibly means that the release could occur before Christmas 2006, meaning hundreds of thousands of DS owners will soon be playing god with the little inhabitants of Sim City. Rumours also have it that the DS game will be based on the PC title Sim City 3000 which will no doubt be a must-own DS title when it’s released.
