Not really all that much to see, but hey it’s just a teaser trailer, so it does what it says. Infinity Ward and Activision are bringing another edition to the Call of Duty series and if it’s anything like the previous versions, we can’t wait!
With game-based movies being as big a disappointment as we expected, we’re extremely glad to see it being done right! With a hint of Battlestar Galactica, the commercial and film production super-team, The Purchase Brothers have taken their love for Half-Life, compiled a brilliant cast, along with respectable special effects, to create a guerrilla style production of Half-Life 2, titled “The Escape from City 17″.
The first two episodes were a gamble, made with a budget of around $500 (!!!), no crew, not very much time, no script and lots of post-processing effects and tricks. And all of this seems to be done with Valve’s approval, flying the brothers out to Seattle to meet and remaining in communication since.
I have no clue what language is being used 90% of the time in this video, but I just recently stumbled-upon the latest episode of The Magic Show, a regular video-reportage on the up-to-date happenings from the Magic: The Gathering world. Following some championship matches in Philadelphia and Memphis, I’m kind of stuck in-between utter confusion and complete interest.
Ah Sigourney, so rough, so tough, we love it! MTV sat down with Sigourney Weaver to talk a little bit the upcoming Alien games from Sega, and the possibilities of her returning to voice her film characters.
Turns out the answer was a resounding, “no”. From the interview:
They wanted me to do Ripley and I said, Well you have Ripley killing aliens but also sick people and other marines! And every other word out of my mouth was a curse word. I’m not a nun or anything, but I said, ‘This is not true to the character.’ And they also showed me six video games and said it was going to be made by this company. There was one called Rednecks where they shoot animals. The whole thing was so ridiculous.
It’s a bit unclear though which Alien game she was talking about, as according to Sega, their people haven’t spoken to Weaver’s people, so it’s up in the air about which Alien game Weaver was in talks for.
The new Nintendo DS, known as the DSi has launched in Japan and it’s a beauty. Featuring a three megapixel camera and improved sound, allowing for pitch and playback adjustment, the new DS is packed full of other improvements. Clocking in at a full 12% thinner than the DS Lite, with an SD memory slot (same as on the Wii) and a 17% larger screen (3.25 inches) makes this version of the DS a huge improvement in my opinion. Don’t even get me started about the online capabilities, such as the built-in web browser and the ability to access the DSi Shop.
With only 2 days under it’s belt, Japan’s Enterbrain is estimating that sales have already passed 170,000, making the rumor of an initial 200,000 shipment almost sold out. Enterbrain is speculating that a further 100,000 consoles are being shipped out to handle the demand.
This thing will blow UP when it reaches the states. License to print money, indeed. Check the video below for some hot footage of the DSi in action.
As part of it’s voter registration campaign along with Rock the Vote, Microsoft is allowing Xbox Live players to virtually vote for their presidential candidate of choice. With the Xbox’s overwhelmingly younger demo behind it, it’s no surprise we’re seeing Obama eeking out McCain 43% to 31% with a large group of undecided at 13% and “other” at 13%. Possibly telling however, is the amount of voter registration forms which have been downloaded via the service since the campaign began. At 55,000 that’s quite a nice number to see, considering how under-represented the youth-generation is around the country.
EA really wants Take-Two to hope aboard the mother-ship. So much so, they’ve extended their takeover offer deadline for the third time, this time giving Take-Two and their board until June 16th become one and plug in to the hive. Though EA still refuses to raise their offer of $25.74 a share for the Rockstar Games parent, many analysts are dropping the word that EA needs to suck it up and pony up a little bit more per share, in order to entice some of the more uncertain Take-Two stockholders. Take-Two recently hit paydirt again with the release of GTA IV, their trusty cash cow which seems to roll around every few years and a hundred million or so dollars later. (Via Gamasutra)
Created as a Master of Science thesis by a Computer Science student in Umeå University, Phun is an amazing little educational game giving players a rich physics playground where they can easily build and tear apart environments, creating havoc upon squiggly line blocks, water, bits and so much more. Great for teaching a young class about the concepts of physics or just a fun little toy to waste your time at work. Originally posted by our nerdy cousins over at Bunch of Nerds.
A 10 year old school boy in Moscow jumped to his death after his parents banned him from playing computer games. The boy, Andrei Smirnov (?) ended his life after receiving his punishment for bad conduct and poor performance at school. Local Russian experts naturally are expressing concern over the unhealthy dependence of children on computers and games in particular.
Playfully addressing issues such as intellectual property rights, file-sharing and domestic surveillance, Torrent Raiders creates a fun new look at the fight against piracy. By building a real-time game on top of live bit-torrent swarms, Torrent Raiders creates an arcade-style shooter within the net it’s self. Players are placed in the role of a mercenary copyright enforcer, capturing evidence against peers sharing files via bit-torrent trackers worldwide, in real-time.
