Take-Two possibly up for sale as power struggle continues
March 19th - 3 Responses

Take-Two announced recently that it is evaluating new strategies, including the possible sale of the company, as an investor group continues it’s power grab of the Rockstar Games publisher. The announcement, which comes after TTWO postponed it’s annual board meeting is causing a little jump in the company’s stock price, causing investors around the world to hover their finger over that little “Sell” button.

JoWooD and The Adventure Company to publish Sam and Max Episodes
March 15th - No Responses

samandmax.jpg

I swear this isn’t a JoWooD financed blog (they couldn’t afford me, har har!), but I just had to throw this one out. In a surprise twist of credibility which can no doubt be attributed to JoWooD’s recent acquisition of Dreamcatcher, JoWooD and Dreamcatcher’s The Adventure Company, have announced they will be partnerting with Telltale Games in publishing Sam and Max Season 1 worldwide. Telltale has been pushing episodic content for awhile now and have only recently been distributed online directly through Telltale’s store and through Gametap. Good for Telltale? We’ll have to see how that goes, I’d have expected a larger partner for an IP with as much credibility behind it as Sam and Max, and JoWooD doesn’t quite have a reputation for developer friendliness, so by means of association I assume that aura spreads off onto The Adventure Company / Dreamcatcher.

JoWooD announces Spaceforce: Rogue Universe
March 15th - 5 Responses

spaceforce.jpg

Also known as Spaceforce2, Rogue Universe is a “groundbreaking” space-based RPG sim, featuring a non-linear storyline of piracy and blasting, allowing players to choose their path towards becoming the best known pilot in space. Whether it can match the beauty of EVE-Online remains to be seen, but I have to say, it’s always great to see a new space title coming out, since the sci-fi genre just doesn’t seem to get enough respect. Spaceforce: Rogue Universe is slated for release in the 3rd quarter of 2007.

Lighthouse Interactive and Austrian developer Vertex4 have released 2 songs from the soundtrack of their upcoming RTS SunAge free for your downloading pleasure. SunAge, an epic RTS which has been in development for over 10 years as both a hobby and professional project, is slated for release in May 2007. The title is set in a futuristic Earth and will feature some pretty intuitive formation handling and battle overviews, as is one of the best looking RTS titles we’ve seen in awhile.

Rockstar Games announces Beaterator PSP featuring Timbaland
March 15th - 53 Responses

Ah how the mighty have fallen. If anyone was ever interested in what a (rumored) corporate power grab from a mother company to it’s prodigal son would produce, this is it. Rockstar Games has announced the release of their web-based music sampling and creation toy, Beaterator, for the PSP, complete with a celebrity name attached, that being hot (as in mainstream hot) Timbaland. No word on if the beats provided by Timbaland will feature any obscure Finnish demo scene samples.

Press release after the jump..

Gothic 3 sells half a million
March 9th - 6 Responses

Proving yet again that JoWooD is at it’s core a feline and it has a handful of lives left, the Austrian-based publisher has announced that Gothic 3 has sold over 500,000 copies worldwide. In another in a long line of uncomfortably-written press releases, execs from JoWooD state they are pleased with the Gothic 3′s status as a “long-seller” and that their “expectations are still outnumbered”, whatever that means. What this means for the Gothic series is you can expect lots of expansions and sequels for many years to come, if JoWooD is able to keep things together for another 3 years.

Take-Two power struggle may prove entertaining
March 8th - One Response

t2.jpg

So it seems Take-Two investors have finally had enough. A group of investors at Rockstar’s mother company, who together own 46% of shares, is taking over the board and flushing senior management starting at the top, with CEO Paul Eibeler. The shakeup is boosting T2′s stock price, which is up over $1 per share as of this moment. Take-Two has been no stranger to controversy on pretty much every level, it just seems that investors have finally had enough of that controversy coming from the top. It’s a shame there won’t be a Rockstar shake-up, but, considering that’s how the bills get paid, I’d understand them not wanting to touch their golden goose.

Recently stumbled upon some screenshots for the upcoming Bomberman Land N64 Wii from Japan, which don’t paint a pretty picture for Bomberman fans. With Bomberman on the VC, does anyone get the feeling this is anything more than filler? Come on Nintendo, get some 3rd party support but at least make ‘em work for it a little. Sheesh. Bomberman Land for the Nintendo Wii is out in Japan March 8th.

Take a peek after the jump..

GameRail network helps the high pingers
March 3rd - 5 Responses

gameisp.jpg

Have high ping and constantly lagging out right before your in-game head is sniped off? Then you should take a look at GameRail, a new internet network provider focusing on multiplayer online gaming is currently beta testing their service in 8 cities: Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Seattle and St. Louis. GameRail has built up a backbone network specifically designed to minimize latency through less hops between your computer and it’s destination (the game server). By interconnecting between local ISPs and game server hosts, cities are connected via a point-to-point data connection, meaning, in theory, you’ll have less dropped packets and lower latency since your data has to travel down one straight ‘tube’ (har har har!) to get to where it needs to be, that being a rail blast through your opponents head.

Update: Gamerail is dead and buried due to low-quality and no discernible market. Best course of action would have been to figure out how to market it to World of Warcraft or online casino gamers.
