Efren Ramirez from Napoleon Dynamite

The nerdiness of this post is out of control! A recent video on YouTube shows Chris Barret and Efren Ramirez (Pedro from Napoleon Dynamite!) living it up on the set of 24 with a few rounds of boxing on the Nintendo Wii. I guess Kiefer was in his dressing room shredding it up on Guitar Hero.

Yeehaw! South Carolina boy arrested for opening his Game Boy early

Opening presents!!

Having grown up in the Charlotte, North Carolina area, I’ve been to Rock Hill many many times (they used to have some of the cheapest gas prices on the east coast!), so naturally this tidbit of news didn’t surprise me one bit. A 12 year old boy known for “actin’ up” was recently arrested after his mother informed the police that he opened his Christmas present, a new Nintendo Game Boy (I’m assuming an SP) without the permission of his family.

A big no-no down south, especially when you’re a naughty boy to begin with. Needless to say tragedy ensued as the mother decided that the kid was out of control (thanks in part to his previous crazy behavior), thus his incarceration will be a life lesson, hopefully straightening him out before it’s too late. Either that or he’ll grow up a small-time criminal, busting up the local, high-stakes poker game held in the back room of a small, out of the way country bar outside of Rock Hill. Regardless, we wish them the best of luck.

Prey coming for OS X

Where would OS X gaming be without Aspyr bringing some of the best games to the platform for us poor and under-represented Mac gamers? Nowhere, that’s where! Now, we have Prey to look forward to according to a recent press release from Aspyr. The mystical sci-fi thriller is currently under development by Aspyr thanks to a publishing agreement with Take Two / 2K Games and is anticipating a January 2007 release date.

Update: PS4 one day, more media center capabilities on the horizon for PS3
December 4th - 21 Responses

Sony PS3, available now, somewhere

According to Sony’s VP of Technology, Paul Holman, there will be a PS4, only, not until at least 2010. Contrary to popular belief Sony aren’t giving up on gaming hardware after the PS3, as many would hope. Among some of the revelations from Holman was Sony’s plans on adding more media center capabilities to the hybrid gaming console, while allowing for more third party applications and hardware to be developed, including the possibility of interactive controllers similar to Nintendo’s Wii controller. He also goes on to talk about how powerful the PS3 is, blah blah blah, but didn’t seem to mention at all how Sony is addressing their deadly supply shortages, which are most definitely attributing to their slow start in this generations console war.

Update 1: Journalists rule, bloggers drool!

EVE Online - Revelations

EVE Online recently launched their much anticipated first-step into the Revelations story line, bringing all of the EVE factions one step closer to war and lots of nifty new ships and features. As is typical with most MMORPG expansions, there are quite a few bugs roaming around, but, CCP is hard at work clearing them up.

For now, enjoy the Revelations trailer after the jump..

GTtv questions David Jaffe on God of War 3
December 2nd - 7 Responses

God of War

GTtv recently trapped God of War creator David Jaffe at the Playboy mansion and hammered him with questions about the future of God of War, more specifically, when is part 3! Jaffe seemed to be hammered enough on his own, but he did let go some interesting tidbits of information. Like, he agrees that he fucked up God of War on the PSP and that he’s just started the design process for God of War 3, though he’s quick to point out that they aren’t in development yet.

I particularly enjoy the many times Jaffe takes the EXTREMELY desperate Sony marketing shill to task as he tries to break into Jaffe’s interview and pimp-up Sony with terms he thinks will connect with the kids. Jaffe seems like quite the level-headed individual, I’m pleasantly surprised considering the bad rap he gets on all the gaming forums, but, video game designers drunk at the Playboy mansion…console manufacturer marketing shills….game developers taking part in possibly nude poker game…where is this industry heading?

Favorite quote:
Jaffe to desperate marketing guy during one of his many attempts to break into the interview.

oh my god…go fuck your self in the grotto cause we…no one else is going to fuck you in there…gogogo..

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 – Sith Lords Restoration Project

Knights of the Old Republic 2 being reborn

Old news, but hey I’m old school, so whatever to the haters, I love this game and I’ve been watching this project in anticipation for awhile now. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was one of the hottest new titles at the time of it’s release, almost helping us to completely forget the dismal prequels which were bouncing around the local megaplexes. With the release of KOTOR, Star Wars gaming was reborn as an incredibly immersive and rich action adventure wonderland of Droids, exploration and lots of text to read. Bioware’s stock jumped high into the skies, riding on the back of a best-seller. Then, came Knights of the Old Republic 2. A valiant effort by new developers Obsidian, but, one couldn’t help but get the feeling that the game was extremely rushed and had more bugs than a South American rain forest (if there are any even left to speak of). One also couldn’t help but get the feeling that if only Bioware dropped Jade Empire and gave KOTOR2 the attention it deserved we’d all be eagerly waiting KOTOR3 for the Xbox 360 right about now, a natural piece of hardware for such a large project. But, oh well, we can all dream, let me get to the point of this post.

KOTOR 2′s shortcomings have been established, but, something that wasn’t expected was the discovery of a large amount of hidden and unfinished content, including assets which pointed to the existence of an incomplete new planet (M4-78). Enter Team Gizka, a rabid group of KOTOR fans and modders who have decided to try and ‘fix’ (at least partially) the shortcomings of KOTOR 2. With access to a large amount of the cut content, Gizka are re-scripting, cleaning up code and unlocking hours worth of new content, missions and characters for us Star Wars fans to enjoy.

Read Team Gizka’s manifesto after the jump..

Armada Online opens alpha testing

Armada Online

Armada Online brings an indie tear to my eye. A sci-fi themed MMORPG with some of the sickliest-sweet art direction I’ve ever seen, Armada takes the hyper real art style of Eve Online and gives it a coating of playfulness. Don’t be mistaken though, Armada is already a surprisingly solid game, featuring quite an in-depth items, weapons and stats system for the RPG nerds deep down inside all of us and a rapidly growing and enthusiastic community. Currently the world features 1 PvP and 1 PvE instance, though I expect this to grow as more players discover the joy of massive PvP space battles. Hopefully a Mac client is forthcoming, since this would be a nice addition to the paltry options available to us Mac users (who like to keep their PCs permanently shutdown).

LifeSigns: Hospital Affairs

..and by announce I mean they released another in a long line of poorly written and absolutely unexciting press releases. Moving on. LifeSigns: Hospital Affairs is a Japanese drama-soap game for the Nintendo DS, which JoWooD has chosen to be their debut title for the Nintendo DS, bringing Austrian-backed games to yet another console! LifeSigns will be released first quarter 2007 for the Nintendo DS console.

From JoWooD’s ‘Marketing Manager’:

Lifesigns for Nintedo DS takes part of all Nintendo DS features and we are really proud to publish such an innovative game concept on the successful Nintendo DS. This is for JoWooD the perfect possibility to have a good start on the DS console

World of Warcraft in-game statistics
November 29th - 153 Responses

World of Warcraft

Blizzard has added a feature to their website allowing users to view up to date statistics on some of the many data points contained within the massively massive multiplayer world. The WoW stats allow you to see the most auctioned items (Runecloth), most dangerous NPCs (Drek’Thar), most looted items (Linen Cloth), most created items (Soul Shard), most complete quests (A Threat Within) and the most gathered items (Chopper Ore). Whew. So go forth statistics nerds and bury yourself in gobs and gobs of data related to the game everyone loves to hate.
