Tasty Planet gameplay trailer - Katamari indie-style

Tasty Planet

Tasty Planet, a new release from indie developer Dingo Games, certainly wears it’s influences on it’s sleeve. In Tasty Planet, you play as a happy little ball of microscopic nanotechnology which is becoming aware of it’s surroundings and begins to devour the planet, starting with the body it’s implanted in all the way to devouring the entire galaxy. Not quite as cheery as Katamari I must say, but for what it is, an enjoyable indie developed casual game, it looks pretty interesting to me, especially since I can play it on my Mac (a rare treat).

Rollercoaster Tycoon

Leave it to kids today to take something as harmless as Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 and turn it into something so cool that I actually want to buy it. A YouTube user recently had a little fun taking advantage of the AI of Rollercoaster Tycoon 3, by creating a simple and destructive construction whereby hundreds of Tycoon residents mistake a passage of death for one giving away free balloons.

Canadian Sony PS3 commercial featuring music from Brian Eno
October 20th - One Response

Sony PS3 that never was

Sony’s recent advertising campaign is hitting the airwaves and it’s how should I say, hmm, oh yeah, arrogant. I’m probably just reading too much into it, but, it seems to me that Sony is basically saying that we’re all little consumer sheep sitting and waiting anxiously to throw several month’s rent at them in exchange for their next gaming system. But that’s ok, Sony always has some top notch marketing and they’ve made up for my perceived insult by including a brilliant track by Brian Eno in a recent-ish Canadian commercial. The track is “An Ending (Ascent)” from the album “Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtrack” (Playthrough’s #1 Eno favorite album) by Brian Eno, his brother Roger and Daniel Lanois, which has also been featured in many movies in recent years.

CABAL Online launches in Europe

CABAL Online

CABAL Online, the huge massive multiplayer RPG from South Korea, has gone live in Europe, bringing it’s unique brand of Eastern fantasy to the EU territory, a hard market to crack for any MMORPG without the word “Warcraft” in it’s name. CABAL’s edge is it’s intuitive console-style hack and slash combat and stunning good looks, though preliminary reviews from the US beta event has mentioned the problems with it’s small game world. CABAL Online is currently offering a 7 day free trial, allowing players to try before they buy as well as several other offers allowing players to refer friends in exchange for free credit.

Gothic 3 boars from hell video, first patch already available

Gothic 3

Gothic 3, the revered RPG from European developer Piranha Bytes and publisher JoWooD is finally out and from all I’ve been hearing, is selling like hotcakes. Nevermind that it was a totally rushed release, is buggy as hell and JoWooD’s marketing department still writes their press releases like a 14 year old kid at a LAN party hopped up on Red Bull. No no, we jest, we like the look of Gothic 3 and we really hope it helps JoWooD out of the hole it continually digs for itself. One of my favorite scenes so far from Gothic 3 though has to be the already infamous boars from hell. These little guys are brutal, sometimes causing the player to fall into an infinite death loop, or wreaking havoc on multiple NPCs at one time.

I love the Indian Xbox 360 commercial

Xbox 360

Several weeks ago, Microsoft launched their Xbox 360 console in India and though the price is outrageous in relation to India’s GDP, their marketing campaign is accessible to everyone, even me! Featuring Akshay Kumar and Yuvraj Singh, everything about this commercial is great. The cinematography is beautiful, with exaggerated colors to match the exaggerated people running, jumping and er, stretching around the “homeland”. It sure beats the Austrian and German ads, which have to be the dryest, most boring ads I’ve seen.

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance gameplay videos

Marve: Ultimite Alliance

I’m totally looking forward to Marvel: Ultimate Alliance and you can be sure I’ll be getting this for the Nintendo Wii and loving every muscle-tearing moment of it. First, the game features just about EVERY important character in the Marvel Universe (get it?), with 20 playable characters available straight from the start and 120 more unlock-able throughout the game. Second, not only are all of these amazing characters playable, but you can actually custom create your team of heroes, creating the ultimate, dynamically switchable team (Wolverine, The Punisher, Spider Man and Thor on one team, oh man). The gameplay takes you through missions, huge melee brawls and even recreations of legendary Marvel battles throughout the history of Marvel. The game looks brilliant and will be released for every major next-gen platform, which will fit right at home with my Wii60 collection.
