PS3 gets Dolby Digital with TrueHD surround sound, Wii gets Pro Logic II

The dream-rear of the PS3

Dolby Labs announced today what it’s support for the Nintendo Wii and Sony PS3 consoles will be. The Wii will utilize Dolby’s Pro Logic II, giving audiophile Wii fans a bit of a shot, but, inline with Nintendo’s stance on gameplay over technology. Dolby PLII is a non-digital, “5.1″ technology which is currently used by the last generation consoles as well as the Microsoft 360. The Sony PS3 naturally will be a different story. Costs be damned, Sony went all out, including Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound for games and Dolby Digital with Dolby TrueHD for 7.1 channels of pure Blu-Ray movie playback bliss, for those who decide to sell a kidney in order to actually buy the thing.

Zelda Twilight Princess - Link on a horse

Yeah! That’s what I’m talking about, some great looking box art for the upcoming Zelda: Twilight Princess for the Nintendo Gamecube and Wii. Though I think the Gamecube version looks so much better, I’ll be getting the Wii version I’m afraid. Oh, who am I kidding, I’ll be getting both, I knew I couldn’t sneak that one past you all.

See the boxart after the jump..

Nintendo DS icon

Man, I really suck at Mario Kart DS, but even more important, I can never create an emblem for my cars, you know, to at least look cool while I’m getting slaughtered on the track. Thankfully, there is the awesome community site DSicons.com, a great little resource for all of us fashion concious Mario Kart racers who need the perfect icon on our rides before we hit the track. You’ll still need a little bit of artistic ability, but, with the zoomed walkthroughs that DSicons provide, it’s much easier for even an artistic clutz like myself to get a hot little hammer and sickle rolling on the front of my little Standard YS.

Sega Wii Virtual Console

We were sold on Wii Virtual Console when we read about the first batch of rumoured titles, but now we’re starting to get all antsy over here! A recent search on the ESRB ratings page shows that there are a handfull more mega-classic titles coming for the Virtual Console, this time from the publisher of every fanboy’s dreams, Sega! By visiting the ESRB search page and performing a search by platform (choose Wii, duh), you’ll see at the bottom of the list, 6 classic Sega titles, which one can only assume is coming for the VC.

Rumoured list of Wii Virtual Console launch titles

Wii Virtual Console controller

Being ravid Wii fans and always up for a little gossip, you can imagine how excited we were when this list crossed our tip box (thanks Torr). Nintendo fan site, Play-Nintendo, came upon a ‘trustworthy source’ who passed word that there are at least 26 titles slated for launch on the Wii Virtual Console, including many of the greatest gaming hits of all time. There are also rumoured to be at least 5 new titles in development for the VC, but information on those could not be obtained. More titles can be added to the VC list quite easily we’re told, so expect more (or less) exciting titles announced in the coming months.
