The brave souls behind the Indie Games Festival have released a rather exhaustive list of their entrants for 2007’s competitions, breaking the previous years amount of entrants by a large margin. The list is huge honestly, so I’m not even going to try and list them all, but I will cover my 5 favorites and then I’ll see about dropping a few bones in Vegas on the outcome.

Bang! Howdy!
A multiplayer online strategy game set in a Manga-inspired 3D wild west setting! Gameplay is varied and there’s even an in-game “microcurrency” allowing players to buy units, gameplay-affecting power ups and custom avatars. Currently in beta and seeking more players (hint hint).

Plasma Pong
We’re huge fans of Plasma Pong and spent quite a bit of time simply watching the beautiful real-time fluid dynamics flowing back and forth across our wide-screen monitor. Gameplay is essentially classic Pong but made to look a hell of a lot better. Our pick to win something!

Kudos
Kudos is the newest title from uber-indie-developer Positech Computing, Kudos is a life-simulator where you control your character from age 20-30, controlling every aspect of their life from socializing to career paths to relaxing at the end of the day. Not everyone’s cup of tea, but, Cliffski is a legend in the making and he puts more sweat and tears into his games than most.

Golf?
Crazy take on golf, where each player navigates a polygon mesh around a height field texture which is mapped to appear like a traditional golf hole. Whew, deep breath. A longshot, but, it’s fresh, pretty interesting looking and good, clean multiplayer fun.

Gang Wars
Biting off quite a bit more than most indies can chew, Radioactive Software are creating a massive multiplayer RTS hyrbid where up to 6 gangs fight for control of the various legal and illegal activities around the city, which earns the player the money they need to expand their gangs towards domination. An indie GTA RTS in the making? Quite possibly.
